Supported by the European Commission through a Life+ project and in partnership with CNR Ismar, IFP Energies Nouvelles and Giuseppe Giordano (owner of the ship) the project has three main goals :
- Reducing by 5 to 10 % the fuel consumption, which is the biggest cost item.
- Reducing the operating costs for fishing vessels.
- Raising awareness among the fishing and maritime European sector on the importance and benefits of reducing greenhouse gas emissions.
The demonstration ORC prototype was successfully installed in the engine room of the ship, and uses the exhaust gases of the main engine as a primary heat source. Power generation relies on an Enogia turbine specifically designed and manufactured for this project and the electricity generated by the ORC is directly fed to the ship's ancillaries.
Friday, September 8th: Seminar in Ancona
Following the successful integration of the ORC, the three partners, and the owner of ship organized a Seminar in Ancona, Italy to show the project in front of a maritime industry audience. It was the opportunity to introduce the first tests results, which proved the system to be functional, with the ORC generating its first kilowatts of electricity without hampering operation of the main engine.
